Wings to wheels: The Wright Brothers launches 21st-century bikes

The feeling of riding a bike is synonymous with flying, and the legendary Wright brothers are synonymous with both. It was in the back of their Ohio bicycle shop that they went from wheels to wings and forever changed the world.

Now, The Wright Brothers USA, a commercial arm of The Wright Brothers Family Foundation, is now offering two ‘Built Wright in the USA’ bicycles, the Van Cleve™ 1896 (MSRP: $4,750) and the St. Clair™ 1896 (MSRP: $3,950), both named in homage to Wright family history.

The Reynolds 725 heat-treated, double-butted Cro-Moly steel frames are hand-made by Co-Motion Cycles in Oregon and assembled in Dayton, Ohio, home of the Wright’s first bike shop. The premium-spec’d, built-to-order bikes are currently sold consumer direct through thewrightbrothersstore.com.

These sturdy adventurers are the original gravel bikes, able to handle asphalt, cement, crushed limestone, or dirt. They simultaneously represent old and new cycling heritage. Detailed information about the bikes is below. Please spread the word to your readers.

Proceeds fund the work of The Wright Brothers Family Foundation, which is dedicated to preserving the Wright brothers’ legacy worldwide. Its initiatives include maintenance and programming of Hawthorn Hill (the Wright brothers’ success mansion), restoration of the original Wright Company buildings (the first U.S. airplane factory) and preservation of aviation history around the globe.
